Moving out of Jordan

If you're leaving Jordan for a new destination, here are some essential steps to take:

• Close local bank accounts and settle any outstanding financial obligations.

• Notify your landlord in advance and settle any outstanding rental payments.
• Pay all outstanding utility bills and cancel other services like telephone and internet.

Additional requirements for Diplomats

• Diplomats must be in Jordan at least one month before their household goods (HHG) arrive.
• Diplomats need to register with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through their embassy to receive customs and tax exemptions on HHG and vehicles.
• Embassy employees without diplomatic customs status are exempt from customs but subject to actual inspection.

Importation of motor vehicles

• Vehicles older than five years cannot be imported.
• Diesel-powered passenger cars are not allowed.
• Duty-exempt individuals, such as diplomats, are also exempt from vehicle taxes.
• Taxed foreigners can import a car temporarily for up to six months, with the option to renew every three months. After the temporary period, the car must either leave the country or full customs duties must be paid.
• Returning Jordanians must pay customs duties unless re-importing a previously exported vehicle with all duties paid.
